Sarah Kaufman (born September 20, 1985) is a mma fighter out of Victoria, Bristish Columbia, Canada and is the current 135 pound women's champion in Strikeforce. Her current record is 12-0.




Kaufman was a dancer since the age of two, but when she was 17, Adam Zugec opened an mma school in the same building as her dance classes. She started taking an aerobics kickboxing class and immediately took as many martial arts classes as she could.


MMA CareerEdit

Kaufman made her professional mma debut facing Liz Posener at the North American Challenge 23 on June 3 2006. She would win by KO in the third round.

Pro MMA DebutEdit

She would go on to face Valerie Letourneau at TKO 29 - Repercussion on June 1, 2007 in the promotion first ever female bout. She defeated Letourneau via second round TKO.

First MMA TitleEdit

She would go on to win the Hardcore Championship Fighting Women's Bantamweight Championship by defeating Ginele Marquez via TKO in round 2 at the HCF - Title Wave on October 19, 2007.

She defend the HCF just once, defeating Molly Helsel via TKO in the second round at HCF - Crow's Nest on March 29, 2008. The promotion folded soon after.

Strikeforce DebutEdit

She debuted in Strikeforce at their ShoMMA 1 card on May 15, 2009, replacing an injured Kim Couture. She defeated talented wrestler Miesha Tate and would go the distance for the first time.


She would face submission specialist Shayna Baszler five weeks later at ShoMMA 2 in the first female fight contested under three 5 minute rounds in the organization. Kaufman would again got the distance, winning by unanimous decision.

Strikeforce Women's 135 pound titleEdit

She would win the first ever Strikeforce 135 pound title on Feb. 25, 2010 at Strikeforce Challengers 6 facing top ranked Japanese fighter Takayo Hashi. It was the first time in Strikeforce history that a women's match went a full five 5 minute rounds. Kaufman would win handily with all three judges giving every round to Kaufman.

She made her first title defense verses jiu-jitsu specialist Roxanne Modafferi at ShoMMA 9 July 23, 2010. After losing a few rounds to Modafferi, she would would slam Modafferi on the mat, and knock her out in the third round to retain the title.

Kaufman is set to defend her title against Marloes Coenen on Oct. 9 in San Jose.
